Shevaun Pope (she/her)
I am a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and a member of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) and the Australian Professional Association of Trans Health (AusPATH). I have experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults across a variety of settings, including primary and secondary schools, the disability sector, and private practice. In my current role at The Courageous Space, I also co-facilitate community-based, gender-affirming voice and communication groups through Transgender Victoria’s Affirmation Station. I am committed to advocacy within my profession and broader community, and have presented at AusPATH's 2025 conference in Tasmania, where I explored voice beyond binary structures and the importance of affirming communication spaces
Approach
As a neurodivergent (AuDHDer) speech therapist, I am particularly passionate about supporting neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ communities. My areas of focus include neuroaffirming social communication, self-advocacy, functional language, and gender-affirming voice and communication support. With a background in singing and musical theatre, I grew up surrounded by the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities, who gave me a strong sense of belonging and showed me how vital it is to have safe spaces for identity and expression. I carry this forward in my work, with a commitment to creating spaces where neurodivergent, gender-diverse, and trans people feel seen, respected, and supported. I draw from the neurodiversity-affirming paradigm, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, trauma-informed and strengths-based frameworks, and key concepts of Family Therapy to guide my approach.
My approach is creative, collaborative, and person-centred. I often weave my passion for music and creativity into therapy to make sessions engaging, interest-based, and meaningful. I aim to connect human-to-human, bringing curiosity, collaboration, and kindness into the room. Together we explore what matters most to you, whether that is building confidence in self-advocacy, understanding communication preferences and differences, embracing identity and expression, or finding a voice that feels authentic to you. Above all, my goal is to create a space where you feel supported, respected, and empowered to communicate in ways that reflect who you are.
